Dancing in Sarigerme

Post by ginkster on Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:25 pm

While on holiday in september 2006 we decided to visit Sarigerme village on our first night in the area.
We noticed a big crowd half way up the street and went to investigate, It was some older people dancing (locals I think), Almost instantly a local man approached us and we where given 2 chairs (ME + WIFE) and rushed through the crowd to the front for a ringside view.
No one else in the crowd had seats so we felt a little weird, a few moments later he returned with 3 ice cream cones for my kids.
Kids being kids my youngest instantly dropped hers, not to worry though as the man came back with another.
We did feel a little puzzled by all this as this was our first visit to Turkey (usually Greek Islands for us) and thought we where being set up to be ripped off,( WE WHERE NOT!!!)
After 40 mins we decided to leave , so I got up and went to look for that local guy so that I could pay for the ice creams and thank him. When I found him he said the ice creams are free for your kids and asked if we enjoyed the dancing. we shaked hands and he said please come and visit the village again, and visit him in his shop, when I asked where his shop was he pointed to a general gift shop.
Great I said we do need all the inflatable stuff for the kids to use around the pool, and this was one of the reasons we went into the village (the hotel rips you of with theese types of things).Sure enough everything we got was half the price compared to the hotel.
This man went out his way to welcome visitors to the village, ( we where the family with the milk bottle complexions) and has left my family with a unforgetable first impression with regards to the people of Sarigerme.
We return to the pegasus village hotel in June 2008 and will be visiting this great wee village again.
Doese anyone know if the dancing in the village is weekly, 2 weekly, monthly or could it have been a one time thing.

Cheers Gink.

Wedding -Stag or Hanna Night

Post by kedoo on Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:48 pm

Gingster ,

i think you came a cross to a Wedding celebration , could be Hanna night (usually women only) ,or can be a Stag night ...
If there was Women and Man ,then it must be a Wedding celebration ..
There are no regular community dancing (i am not sure is that the right word for it ) where Village people are involved ..Only on weddings -angagements ...

ooo, nearly forget to mention the Circumcision parties study
