changing money

Post by doglover on Wed Jan 23, 2008 8:02 pm

You are better off changing your money in one of the local jewellers than the banks, they always give you a better rate. There are lots of jewellers in Dalaman or Ortaca. Idea

MONEY EXCHANGE

Post by kedoo on Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:20 pm

Hi Cath ,
In some areas of Turkey Dolar is usefull while in some areas Euro ,however from Marmaris to Fethiye sterlin is easy to exchange and is widely excepted..Bring Sterlin ,if possible in £10 banknotes ...Do not exchange your ££££ at Dalaman Airport , they charge huge commision, when you ask why ? They come up with a stupid answer " oh, because goverment asks us to charge" ..I went bonkers when i heard that ,but makes no difference ..
Banks in Dalaman and Ortaca do not charge any commision whatsoever , best think to do is exchange it at Jewellery Shops or Travel agencys in the Village ,also Do NOT exchange it at the reception of your Hotel as the rates are soooo low ...
Hope this Helps

Pounds or Euro's

Post by RayOsman on Thu Feb 28, 2008 4:21 pm

I always take pounds, but be carefull with banks some do charge commission, I found the best place is Jewellery shops in Dalaman in particular jewellers Gurhan Gold in the main high street, no commission and a better rate than the banks.

Hope this helps, enjoy your visit.

Currency Exchange

Post by Gillian on Sun Apr 13, 2008 6:14 pm

We returned from Dalaman 1 week ago and we took mostly Sterling. The Jewellers shop next to Ladybird Estate Agency in Dalaman gave us 2.52 to the pound.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Will definately do that again. However, next time I will take Euros for the Duty Free shopping at the airport. The prices were all in Euros although there was a machine to give you the price in Lira and pounds but the exchange rate was really poor.

Currency Exchange

Post by bjudson on Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:49 pm

Just back from Sarigerme and sterling is best to take. I found that most jewelry shop give a better rate than the bank, I was getting 2.54 to the £. If you want a good tip for general travelling abroad, get yourself a Nationwide credit card as they give you great rates on a day by day basis, I got 2.57 one day and guess what they don't charge you a commission. I wouldn't leave home without it Smile

Also you will need £ to get visas at the airport

MONEY HELP PLEASE

Post by Kerry Liston on Mon Apr 28, 2008 10:18 pm

Not long to go now (3 and half weeks) mind you hope it warms up!!! What exchange rate are you getting out in turkey at the moment. Also could anyone give me some advice on how much to bring for a 2 week holiday for 1 adult and 3 kids (one being nearly 40 Smile). We are in the holiday village so no food and drink to worry about but don't want to spend the whole fortnight there. We want to do a couple of excursions and go to a market. I've really no idea how much things cost out there (well apart from the excursions as have looked on the website). Hope someone can help.

money

Post by ginkster on Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:21 am

Hi Kerry

We went to the holiday village in sept2006. We took £1000 for a family of 5 for 2 weeks, and came home with £50, so I will try and breakdown what we spent it all on!!! haha.

Kids club £3 per kid for chocolate party twice, £3 per kid pizza party twice, £2 per kid dvd night twice, popcorn £2 each most nights.
Taxi into village and back £4 one way, meal in the village and drinks £50 for 5 of us ,Swimming pool toys £15-£20 (cheaper in the village not the hotel) , bowling and arcade games £50 easy in 2 weeks, water sports £70 easy in 2 weeks, 12 island boat trip £35 for 5 of us with Sarigerme tours drinks on the boat £40, tea and pancakes on pancake island £20 , Photos at the hotel £15-£20, camel ride £10-£15,
£200 on clothes at the market I got 8 lacoste tshirts for £20 the hotel shop was offering 4 for £20, £40 was spent at the rip-off airport.

This is just some of the ways we parted with our cash. I think that the more money you take the more you spend. We dont usualy take that much when going all-inclusive but this was our first holliday in 7yr and wanted to want for nothing. We spoke to one family who had only spent £70 in the 2 weeks they had been there.

All in all the lovely people of Turkey will easily help you spend your money and give you a good time while doing it.

Any questions just ask Very Happy

Have a great holiday cheers sunny sunny

Post by Kerry Liston on Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:36 am

Thank you, that is a great help. The only thing that worries me is that you mentioned arcades pale - my kids and husband love them (well the kids with the 2p machines). Shall have to give them a daily budget otherwise they will be there ALL the time!!! Perhaps they might have got rid of them 2 years on (can but live in hope!) Smile

I was things between £800 and £1000 (we spent £500 on our last all inclusive but that was in Dominican and was miles from anywhere)

Help Please

Post by Kerry Liston on Thu May 08, 2008 12:59 pm

Only 2 weeks to go just need a couple of question answered.

First of all money, what is the exchange rate out in Turkey currently (perhaps anyone out there at the moment could let me know)? Also is it best to use Sterling or Lira? How widely acceptable is Barclaycard - do Sarigerme Tours accept it. Lastly does anyone know if the Holiday Village have cocktails and what's the beer like!

Hi

We are staying at hol village on 29th May for 2 weeks, from what people seem to be saying on other sites I should take a few lira and then take sterling, we did exactly same in Egypt last year and spent mainly English money.
