we last went on 2006 and came back with all the lira we took, we was getting better deals using the £££, is this still the case???

not really ,
simply locals are fedup of trying to explain how much it is in Turkish and Sterling , why the exchange rate is different to back in UK etc. etc . ..Just to make it easy for you and for time sake they tell you to pay with sterling.
Does not matter with what currency you pay with , price will be still the same ...
Some cases they actually prefer TL rather then foreign currency ,its all depends how high the currency is , for example two year ago it was 3 lira to the pound ..
